100 Days of My Youth (Day 10): Live Life!
A friend once told me while we were on a mini getaway in Jinja by the Nile; “Enjoy your Life Fam, we suffered to get to where we are now”.
Even with heights that had occupied me, I kind of forgot everything major about that evening but this stood out and still does.
I’ve always hinted and many of my fellow “Youths” do know it that we’re the generation that has all the hype, the great vibe but really nothing to show to back it all up. We’re having issues but never want to shove it in anyone’s faces partly because of pride or fear of being ridiculed.
However, we’ve maintained the level of faking it till we make it. We’ve lived and are still living. I don’t have much but I’ll live my life like it were my last day.
We’ve mastered the art of living life with a big spoon. When some youths have some monies, their egos inflate, they’re happy and it’s evident. They want to show whoever cares to see that they have the money they need to bring happiness and everyone around them at their feet. Don’t judge them, that’s life mwattu!
It’s a good feeling being able to bring anything you’ve ever fantasized and cherished to yourself without looking desperate before anyone but yourself.
I get it, we live once! It can never be me telling you what you should do when you get money or what you should plan for, besides it’s not my job too. We(youths) admittedly see ourselves going to a broke state and still drive that direction, our hope Is that when we’re broke, we’re smarter than ever to make even more money. It’s a cancer killing us but who cares anyway, it’s one hell of a hustle out here.
While some will prefer to hit the road and “eat their money” on a vacation, others will prefer to take their loved ones on a fancy date or “house” their friends drinks all night.
Some are laid and reserved back and will maybe throw their money to an investment or two because it’s what makes them happy. Blame them not, they know what’s best for their lives. It’s a great thing to know what you want and need.
I have friends of mine that never run broke, they live odd lives from mine. They work hard, have different likes from mine, spend their money on things I find insane but they also feel the same way about me. We’re okay that way, we all make fairly the same amount of money and we always remind each other not to live outside our means.
But hey, sometimes you need to show this life the middle finger, wipe your sweat off, buckle up and go reward yourself once in a while. When you’re broke, what are your friends for?
Like eat your money, go to a fancy restaurant and enjoy the best of your life. Love your girl, give her the best treatment you feel she deserves. Buy yourself a really kickass shoe, change your wardrobe, go bungee jumping or Quad Biking. Do something that makes you happy with your hard earned money.
Celebrate those small wins like they were the biggest of your life. When the big things come your way, you’ll be used at handling such.
Also, think smart too and know if tomorrow will have to be lived then today doesn’t have to leave you with debts that you’ll be faced with tomorrow.
It’s allowed to eat your life with a big spoon, to spend your hard earned money on things that make you happy, just don’t forget to do so within your means. Never leave to impress anyone but yourself!
A youth with his first cigar makes himself sick; a youth with his first girl makes everybody sick. ~Mary Little
