There was a time when I was a hater of the folks that always threw the iPhone craze in our faces. Those fellas always pissed me off and made it seem like we who had nothing Apple in our possession were unserious in life.
I always fought the narrative, I loved to hate but couldn’t. Deep down inside me, I knew the respect one accorded when they had an iPhone, I knew just how sweet holding one was and I knew I needed one but there was no way I was going to put a fortune in a small thing. But all that was so because I was poor.
Time flew and I got to buy one eventually. I finally bought me one and I could finally “Fit in” the crew. In a small while, I started singing praises to my other friends who had not joined the league. I fought their love for Android and preached owning an iPhone. It was excitement indeed!
My closest friend fought it, his phone was in a dilapidated state but he still didn’t want to get himself an iPhone. He wasn’t the hype type but eventually he gave in and bought one. We told him he eventually had to give in and enjoy his youth the rest of us.
See, most of us youth want to stand out and look different. We want to be viewed as fellows of different stature just to seem cool. We want things but because we fear to be seen as “everyone else” or cliche, we’ve denied ourselves the joy and pleasure of our youth and generation.
I’ve seen many people trying so hard to have hobbies they are not happy indulging in, Ive seen friends continue living in denial under the disguise of “It can never be me”. They’ve been bored to the bone faking their lives and have ended up happy. Some have admitted while the rest have changed and gotten along. It’s funny!
Whatever you do, don’t fight it. If you feel like you want to plait your hair, wear ripped jeans, get a tattoo, go for an event, do so without any hesitation. Spend on whatever it is you want to spend on, get high on your own supply.
You may never get the chance again to do some of these things that life is throwing at you. Now could be the time to go all out and have a good time, Don’t fight it!
